TRAINING WEAPONS

The training weaponry sold by J-Armory is made from "select" grade hickory which, is the highest grade of wood. "Select" grade minimizes the knots and the flaws of the wood. Hickory provides not only the highest flexural strength by about 10% but also about 30% more impact strength.  This makes Hickory a superior choices for martial art training weaponry.


Bokkens

All bokkens are individually crafted and hand made from "Select" Hickory which is the strongest indigenous wood in North America. We have recently redesigned the cross section through the blade to take impact yet it is slimmer than previous designs.  The bokkens have been redesigned so that they now can be used with a saya for drawing practice.  These bokkens are made with longer hilt lengths which closer resemble the swords used during the feudal period.   Many of the mass produced bokken of today are modeled from swords after the feudal era which was a time of peace.  The hilts became shorter and more ceremonial.  This way they would not be in the way when carried in everyday life.  The handles here are pictured wrapped with a vinyl tape for a light grip and the guards are made from a high flexural strength plastic.
